Dalneigh Primary School Extension
The Dalneigh Primary School extension was a project for which I was Project Architect at CRGP Ltd working for the contractor Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure under a Design and Build contract.
The extension now houses the dining area and kitchen for the Primary School.
The software which I used to produce building warrant and construction drawings was Autodesk Revit.
The project was modelled in 3D in Revit using survey information supplied in way of 2D Autocad drawings.
As I was based in the Glasgow office and the project was Inverness I identified areas where the survey information
was lacking and staff based in the CRGP Inverness office carried out additional survey work to provide this information.
As this project was an extension to an existing building the Revit was set up by myself as a phased model. The existing phase was created using existing survey drawings and the proposed phase was created using the planning drawings. The design for the planning drawings was done by the architectural department of The Highland Council, who are based in Inverness.
The main design features of the building are internal glue-laminated timber beams exposed above the dining area & a crisp contemporary style exterior. Of particular importance to the original architect was the minimal impact of the gutters and eaves on the design.
The clipped eaves detailing, along with the choice of materials for the roof & walls help create a clean crisp exterior which is in keeping with contemporary architectural design.
Early discussions with the engineers, mechanical engineers and timber kit manufacturer's meant that production of building warrant drawings could commence quickly. Time was key in this project as the school did not wish to
close during construction, and disruption to the playground during term time therefore had to be minimal.
The photographs of the building below, are taken after handover to the school. The construction details are those which I drew in Revit, following discussions with the contractor and their chosen manufacturer's.
Should you wish to know more then I would be delighted to discuss the project with you in person.
